The greater Lincoln area is home to about 15,000 people.

There are 13 lakes within the boundaries of Lincoln alone, and many more in the immediate area.

Much of Lincoln’s 90 square mile area is wooded, with many opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Hiking, canoeing, snowmobiling, and downhill and cross country skiing are all available here.

The fishing is especially good, with many fine trout streams. Bass, salmon and togue are also plentiful. The Penobscot River, which forms one of Lincoln’s boundaries, is one of the best smallmouth bass fisheries in the East.

Hunters can find deer, bear, moose, partridge, turkeys, ducks and more.
Penobscot Valley Hospital provides quality health care for the area, including emergency care. Life Flight emergency helicopter service is available, with a heliport at the hospital. Ambulance service is also available.

Physicians, dentists and a veterinarian also serve the people of the greater Lincoln area.

Businesses include: a paper mill, grocery stores, a fitness center, automobile dealerships and parts stores, hardware stores, four banks, two credit unions, restaurants, a Wal-Mart, car wash, laundromat, drug stores, florists, sign shops and a boat dealership. There are also plumbing and heating contractors, builders, service stations, electricians, and more. A weekly newspaper is published in Lincoln.

Nearby Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park offers camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and hiking.

Baxter State Park, with mile-high Mount Katahdin and numerous other peaks over 4,000 feet, is only 60 miles north of Lincoln.

The West Grand Lake chain is 45 minutes from downtown, with boat access to the following lakes: Bottle Lake, Junior Lake, Scraggley Lake, West Grand Lake, Poccumpcus Lake, Horseshoe Lake, Duck Lake, Pug Lake, a portage to Lower Syslabadobsis, Shaw Lake, Milprivledge and Wabassus Lakes. There are more than 45,000 acres of water in this chain of lakes, with many other lakes nearby.

Bangor (population 35,000) is only 45 miles south.

Interstate 95, a four-lane highway, has two exits in the immediate area, in Lincoln and Howland.

Lincoln also has an airport equipped to handle any small aircraft, including seaplanes.
